App State’s Pathways to Resilience Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), General Education Program, and Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for Student Success (CETLSS) invite faculty from across campus to join us for our 2nd Sustainability & Climate Literacy (SCL) Course (Re)Design Workshop.
Goals: This workshop’s purpose is to support the development of Gen Ed SCL courses; preference will be given to faculty who will work on courses that can also meet the requirements of one of these Gen Ed designators: Fine Arts, Historical Studies or Literary Studies (see requirements for SCL courses and for the designators here). We also aim to inspire/foster faculty creativity around teaching about climate, expand the circle of faculty who are teaching about climate, and build community among these faculty.

Stipend & Deliverables: This compensated professional development program is for instructors who are willing to commit to the full-day workshop and complete two deliverables by March 1, 2026: 1) a newly (re)designed syllabus (including assignments, readings, and weekly schedule) focused on SCL criteria, and 2) an AP&P Form C. A stipend of $500 will be paid upon completion of this work.
Leaders: This workshop will be facilitated by Laura England (QEP), Ted Zerucha (Gen Ed), and Lindsay Masland (CETLSS).
Time Commitment: Participants can expect the following in terms of commitment:
- Pre-work: participants will complete a self-guided activity with resources relevant to sustainability education and pedagogy prior to the workshop
- Monday, December 15, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm: in-person workshop program
- Post-work: by March 1, turn in workshop deliverables
Application: Please complete the SCL workshop application form by Monday, November 10. We hope to include all faculty who apply (as budget and space allow). We will get back to all applicants by Friday, November 21st.
