Pathways to Resilience

Pathways to Resilience enacts App State’s current Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Every ten years as part of our reaccreditation process, we select a new QEP topic—an area of student learning and/or student success that aligns with institutional needs and priorities—for coordinated, campus-wide investment. Our climate literacy QEP builds on our previous QEP: Global Learning.
This 5-year university effort will grow students’ climate literacy and climate response-ability—the capacity to participate in positive climate action in our professions and our communities, from local to global. We have completed the first year of our implementation period, which runs through May 2029. Check out opportunities under our For Students and For Faculty menus; our Events page includes climate related opportunities for all.
Pathways to Resilience prepares Mountaineers for the jobs of the future and reinvigorates Appalachian State University as the vanguard institution advancing local, regional and global engagement in climate resilience by developing students as agents for positive climate action within their respective fields.
Read the one-page Pathways to Resilience Executive Summary here. We’re excited about this meaningful work with App State colleagues and students. Read about our team here, and reach out if you are interested in getting involved.
As of May 2025, faculty from nearly 2/3 of App’s academic departments have participated in our Climate in the Disciplines Course (Re)Design Institute.
We’re thrilled with the collaboration and enthusiasm for teaching and learning about climate change and climate solutions that is growing all across App State’s campus!
